CHAPTER 19
AN EVENING AT LeâDIPLOMATE
IT is finally Friday, and LANDON is in his room getting dressed for dinner at Le'Diplomate restaurant downtown. He, Connie and his mother Violet have a reservation for six p.m. They must pick Connie up at five to make their reservation on time. Landon was sitting at the foot of his bed thinking about the interview he had with Alphonso on yesterday. It appears Alphonso is trying to accuse me of my father's death and I don't know why?
I am glad my mother is flying out to Atlanta tomorrow to see my sister Kathleen. Maybe that will take her mind off this entire situation. Darnell has not even given me a call from Soco & Soco on any updates for the case. So, I am just in limbo right now, and I don't know how I will concentrate at dinner tonight or relax. But I must keep my composure for mother's benefit.
As he was finishing his thoughts, his mother called out. âLandon, I am ready if you are.â
Landon walked out of his room and said, âyes mother I am ready. I will text Connie and let her know we are on our way. It is now four-twenty, and it will take us about thirty minutes to get to her place.â
âI am excited we are having dinner with Connie.â
âMother, can you hold that excitement, so we can get in the car and drive to Connie's place.â
As they were pulling out of the garage, Violet was thinking about her visit with Connie yesterday. âLandon you did not discuss the meeting you had with Alphonso, and you have been unusually quiet since then. As a matter of fact, you seem somewhat worried. Is everything ok?â
âYes, mother, everything is ok. I just don't want to talk about it right now.â
âYou can't keep it all bottled up inside like that son.â
âMother, I want you to enjoy dinner tonight. Let's talk about it later when we get back home.â
âOkay, but Connie was worried about you as well. She told me how nervous your father made her feel the first time she met him. I told her that's how he treats everyone because he never turns off that work mind of his even when he is not at work. She also thought your father did not like her. I was surprised at some of the things she knew about him.â
âAnd what might that be.â
âShe knew his favorite wine that he drank sometimes. Even though I knew he liked wine, I did not know that he had a favorite, called Pinot Noir. Did you know that?â
âYes. Connie might have heard me mention that as well about dad.â
âShe also seems to know your father loved me a lot, as a matter of fact, she seems to know a lot about your father. There was one thing that sort of concerned me about Connie on yesterday and that she was very nervous and broke out in a sweat at one time when she was talking about your father.
